Louisa Thomas has been teaching yoga since 2007, and more recently Pilates and Restore Your Core.
She first discovered yoga on a trip to India in 2002 and was stunned to see her strong, fit and young body so challenged by such seemingly simple movements. Fast forward to 2007, and she returned to India on a 6-month sabbatical to complete her teacher training in the Sivananda Yoga tradition, and to study astanga yoga and Ayurveda, traditional Indian medicine.
In 2014, after the birth of her second child, Louisa developed an interest in Pilates and was immediately hooked. In 2017 she embarked on a teacher training course with Polestar Pilates, which combines principles of Pilates, physical therapy and mind-body energy systems. In her efforts to heal post-natally, Louisa also discovered Restore Your Core, an online programme dedicated to improving core function and pelvic health. In 2017 Louisa became one of just 10 people in the world certified to teach Restore Your Core.
Whether teaching a conditioning yoga class at Yorkshire County Cricket Club, or a restorative post-natal class with a new mum, Louisa’s goal is always to make her students the master of their own body, to discover their body’s movement strategies, ensure they are optimal, and to use the breath to cultivate awareness, calmness and wellness.
Having three children in less than four years gave Louisa first-hand experience of how healing a nurturing daily practice can be, and how important proper rest and relaxation is. She is passionate about empowering and informing people to take charge of their health and wellness, and is particularly passionate about working with women during pregnancy and the post-natal period. She has been working as a child birth educator, and a birth doula since 2015, supporting a range of births from c-sections to home births.
With a strong focus on alignment, repatterning the body to move optimally and deep-healing breath work, Louisa’s classes are revealing and informative, challenging yet accessible and always filled with plenty of good humour. They can be tailored to suit all abilities and ages, and she prides herself on making her classes welcoming and inclusive.
